Hiro McLeman (they/them)
I am a queer, trans, non-binary, mixed Japanese and white person. My lived experience being queer, trans, neurodivergent and POC informs my work, seeing me embrace an anti-oppressive, de-colonising, neuroaffirming, sex worker affirming, intersectional feminist and queer lens.
I enjoy working with the LGBTIQASB+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer/Questioning, Asexual, Sistergirl and Brotherboy) community and supporting fellow queer, trans, neurodivergent and gender diverse POC. I have several years of professional experience working as a Counsellor at a community health organisation that specialises in working with the LGBTIQASB+ community.
I have an integrative counselling approach, which means I utilise a range of counselling modalities best suited to the individual's needs. I am primarily trained in Person-Centred Counselling and use interventions from Attachment-based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gestalt, Somatic Experiencing, Mindfulness, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and other modalities where suitable. Underlying my practice is an LGBTIQA+ affirmative, cross-cultural, harm reduction, trauma-informed practice.
I am currently providing individual counselling sessions to people aged 18 years and older located in so-called Australia.
I am a clinical member registered with the peak body for Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Australia know as the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
